LONDON – You often heard that drinking tea is one of health benefit. But before you drink it, better leave the tea colder a bit. Latest research by Iran researcher found that drinking tea in hot condition could cause throat cancer.
In earliest research, on British Medical Journal it is said that there is a relation between tobacco and alcohol as the cause of esophagus cancer. Besides that, it is also written that drinking hot could potentially create cancer.
Drinking hot tea with temperature above 70 Celcius degree same as increasing the risk of throat cancer eight times bigger than you compare it drinking on warm condition, which is below 65 degree, as explained by researcher on Reuters, Sunday (29/3/2009)
Together with his team, Reza Malekzadeh from Tehran University examine 300 people habit drinking who are diagnosed having throat cancer, while the other 571 people in good health. They all come from same region, in Golestan provice, in North Iran.
Malekzadeh made this region as a research sample because Golestan is one of the region that has high rate throat cancer in the world. But on the contrary the habit of smoking and drinking alcohol in this region is very low. Things need to know, almost every citizen drink black tea routinely, about one liter every day.
The result is people who routine drinking tea less than two minute after pouring is risky in creating cancer faster comparing to them who wait four or more minutes.
No certain description how hot is the tea that could cause cancer, but researcher concludes the wound because of the hot from tea could cause throat irritation.
The effect of throat cancer is horrible. It is recorded each year that more than 500,000 people in the world die because of this disease. This disease is mushrooming especially in Asia, Africa, and South America. This cancer is deadly, with healing rate about 12 until 31 percent, it also needs a long time, about 5 years.
